Interpreting From English and From ASL
Intralingual Skills
Do you know that strong skills in two languages are essential to developing accurate interpreting skills? You must have a strong foundation in cognitive processing within each language and in dealing with meaning before moving on to the more advanced skills leading to simultaneous interpreting skills.
Translation
What is the role of translation in interpreter education? Why is translation called the forgotten step in interpreter education and how can the development of strong translation skills help to streamline your learning time? You will learn how translation skills form the link between intralingual skills in your first and second language and consecutive interpreting.
Consecutive Interpretation
Have you ever wondered why spoken language interpreters use consecutive interpreting more than signed language interpreters? In this course you will learn how consecutive interpreting should be used and in which settings. These classes include the history and development of consecutive interpreting and provide an encouraging atmosphere in which to become acquainted with this important skill that can be used as a professional tool or as a developmental skill.
Simultaneous Interpretation of Monologues
This course synthesizes the other courses in the EIPES. Your mastery of intralingual skills, translation and consecutive interpreting all come together so you can begin simultaneous interpreting of monologues.
